SWIMMING.

LADIES' SEAGULL CLUB. ■ The Ladieß* Seagull Amateur Swimming Club held a "social" at Mawson'd Tea Rooms, Cubm-street, to di&tribute the prizes won during the year. Mr. G. S. Hill distributed the prizes won. during tho season foi life-saving, and Miss Arthur (hon. secretary) presented the club winners with thoir trophies. The club's report stated that tho club was founded last December by Miss Olive Arthur, and races were started in January. Seven members, instructed by their captain, who is a holder of tho award of merit, and now possessor of an instructress's certificate, pa'fied various oxamß., two gaining the bronze medallion. Mr. Hill complimented the Misses Arthur on the manner in which they have conducted the club during the season. The girls and ladies would have to improvo greatly to attain the proficiency whioh Miss Olive Arthur had. He was greatly struck by the \>av she gained her award of merit, especially as the test was carried out in. fresh water. She was the first and the youngest lady in the Dominion to gain hor honours, and is now the only lady holding an instructress's- certificate. Miss Arthur holds the Seagull Club's gold medal for the 100 yds championship, presented by Messrs. Neal and Wilson, of the Wellington Club. Miss Olive King gained second honours, and holds Mr. W. G. Moriieth'o medal. During tho past few months eight races have been decided, large entries facing the starter every time. Special prizes wore awarded to Misses I. Thompson and M. Brown for life-6aving j and to Misses I. Tandy and M. Butler for general improvement. The club wishes to thank the following for donations : — Mesdames T. Arthur, Le>chauri, Misses Lechauri, K. Arthur, Messrs. J. Alexander, E. A. Batt, T. Arthur, G. Neal, W. Wilson, W. Morpoth, and R. J. Grimmetl. The usual toasts wore proposed, and during the evening musical contributions and games were indulged in.
