PLUMBERS' CONFERENCE.

A conference of delegates from the various Plumbers' Unions in the Dominion was opened in the V M.^.A. buildings this morning. The following delegates were present : — Messrs. T M'Laughlin, R. D. Johnston, W. Williams (Wellington), Menzies, Billclilf and Gogpll (Christchurch), J. Clark (Auckland), Bissland (Dunedin), and Millan (Timaru). Mr. M'Laughlin was appointed president of the conference and Mr. Johnston secretary. It was decided that the headquarters of the executive should be in Wellington until the holding of the next conference. The consideration of the rules of federation occupied the greater part of to-day's sitting. It is expected the conference will last until next Thursday or 'Friday.

Customs revenue for the week ending to-day amounted to £10,890 ss. in addition to beer duty £276 Is 6d. For the corresponding week of last year the figures were £10,325 3s 5d and £241 2e 3d. Repah'3 to the deviation on Karoriroad, made necessary by the wash-out-caused by the rain storm on 28th February last, cost the City Council £97. The tender of Howie and Matthews, at about £6000, has been accepted for the erection of the fine steel-framed buildings of three stories, which is to occupy the present vacant site at the corner of Willis street and Old Custom-house-street. Mr. A. J. Hobbs will be a candidate for a seat on the Lower Hutt Borough Council at the election this month. The New Zealand Civil Service Association will hold the annual meeting of it« local branch on Friday evening next. The Central Mission service in The King's Theatre to-morrow evening will be of a special character, conducted by delegates of the New Zealand Young Women's Bible Class Convention. "The Story of Little Nere" will be told by Sister Nellie, deaconess to tho Maoris. Sister Huia (Maori deaconess) will sing a solo, and also assist in a Maori duet. Mrs. E. (0. Blamires will be in charge. A meeting of ratepayers will be held in the Eastbourne Hall on Tuesday evening, when the Mayor will review the work of the council during the past year. Members of the Excelsior Lodge of Druids are notified by advertisement in this issue that the fortnightly meeting will be held on Wednesday. The Union Company's steamer Maori will leave Wellington for Picton at 8 o'clock on Monday morning. The return journey will be commenced at -3 p.m. The return fare_has been fixed at ss. Under the auspices of the Wellington Association of Spiritualists a service of song will be given to-morrow evening. Messrs. Harcourfc and Co. will sell the Wellington autumn race privileges on Thursday next at 2.30 p.m. Mrs. Lee advertises that she has reopened the Tiffin Tea and Luncheon Rooms, Winder's Buildings, Mannersstreet. The closing of tenders for Millington's drapery stock, Petone, is extended until 5 p.m. on Wednesday next. A meeting of Loyal Britannia Lodge will be held on Tuesday evening. Court Robin Hood, A.0.F., meets on Wednesday night. A notice to creditors in the assigned estate of John. Wilkinson, bookseller and stationer, is advertised in this issue.
