[PRESS ASSOCIATION.] STREET FRACAS ENDS FATALLY MAN CHARGED WITH MANSLAUGHTER.
GISBORNE, 14th April. On Saturday night last, a fracas occurred in Gladstone-road between two men, as a result, it is stated, of a dispute over some money. One of the two, James Blanch, an elderly man, fell or was knocked heavily to the ground, his head striking the metalled roadway with freat force. He was removed to the ospital in an unconscious condition, and he never properly regained sensibility, despite an operation, and died last evening at the institution. A man, named James Kerr Easton, in the employ of the Telegraph Department, was arrested in the first place and released on bail, being charged with assault causing actual bodily harm. On the death of Blanch, Easton was rearrested, and now will have to stand his trial on a graver charge. The acting-coroner to-day held an inquest on the body of the deceased, and a verdict was returned that deceased met his death as the result of injuries caused by a push or blow from Easton. Accused will appear in Court ! on a charge of manslaughter. HANDSOME GiF^FOR V.M.C.A. _ WANGANUI, 11th April.
