TELEGRAMS. SUSPENSION OF CYCLING CLUB OFFICIALS.
WHAT LED TO IT. fBX TELEGttAPH— SPECIAL TO THE POST.] CHPJSTCHURCH, This Day. Officials of the Chrißtchurch Cycling and Motor Club have been suspended from noon to-day by the executive of the North Canterbury Centre of the j League of Wheelmen. Some time ago , the management committee of the club, ' noticing some leading riders not entered for the cycling events at the Holway exhibition meeting, v/here the prizes were small, asked them to attend a meeting of the committee in connection with the matter, the object being to obtain some idea of the patronage better grade riders were prepared lo give similar events in future. The riders attended at an in■formal meeting and their views were heard, A little time afterwards the riders wrote to the North Canterbury Centre, which requested the officials of the club to attend an enquiry. The committee replied that officials would not attend an enquiry because they had no case to place before the Centre. The Centre wrote to the committee, and directed it to apologise to the riders for "discourtesy." The committee ignored the communication, and the Centre passed a resolution suspending the officials- of the club during the pleasure of the Centre, suspension to date from noon on 15th April. Speaking to a reporter, Mr. C. Leeming, secretary of the club, said there had been, no question of discourtesy to any ridera. , The meeting had been quits informal between the riders and the committee. The league had no jurisdiction over the meeting, and there was nothing in the rules to justify interference. In the meantime the dub has asked the Centre for an enquiry into several matters, including alleged boycott of the Holwa-y carnival and the flagrant breaches of rules by the League Centre, and t the request will be forwarded direct to the New Zealand Athletic Union. The club is Tefraining from promoting meetings.
