[press association.] SALE OF OIL COMPANY'S PLANT. NEW PLYMOUTH, 12th April. It is stated that the plant of the Moa Petroleum Company, which operated unsuccessfully at Inglewood a few years ago, has been sold to tho New Zealand Oilfields, Ltd. — an English company operating at Uiaborne. PRICE OF MEAT INCREASED. ' DUNKDtN, 12th April. A meeting of master butchers was held at Burnside cattle yards to-day, to consider the advisability of increasing the price of meat owing to increased prices of stock. It was decided to increase the present prices from halfpenny to penny per lb. PRESBYTERIAN SYNOD. DUNEDIN. 12th April. Tho Presbyterian Synod of Otago and Southland unanimously carried a motion approving of the efforts of the University Senate to get Parliament to pass the necessary legislation for granting degrees in divinity, and asking every presbytery in the country to pass simiJar resolutions. St. Margaret's College, established by the Presbyterian Church for the accommodation of lady students from the country, was opened by Synod this afternoon. The Rev. Jas. Clarke (Palmerston) was appointed moderator for next year. In the evening discussion took place with reference to a euggestion made by Lieutenant Thorns^ that the congregation should combine in the matter of securing officers for cadet corps in their districts. It waa decided to instruct presbyteries to make what provision they thought desirable to meet the 6ituation created by the Government's compulsory training echeme. An amendment by the Rev. A. Cameron that the Synod advise congregations, as such, to ,-stand aloof from the whole question, was ?lost by 20 votes to 12.
