MAKARA COUNTY COUNCIL

The Makara County Council met yesterday. There were present :—Councillors George Monk (chairman), J. H. Haggerty, S. Bryant, F. T. Moore, T. H. Eastwood, F. H. Hawkins. The mattei' of an alleged nuisance ail a pig farm at Korokoro was referred to Wellington Hospital and Charitable Aid Board for its consideration. Councillor Moore moved to this effect. It was stated that the pigs polluted a stream which drained into the reservoir that supplied the Ngahauranga. Freezing' Works, Councillor Moore drew attention to i th« satisfactory financial position of the council as disckxse.d by - the balance- [ sheet. They had a credit of £1462 19s 7d in hand on 31st March last, whereas at the same time in 1910 there was a debit of £535 18s Id. The council had practically in hand the £2000 it had received from the Hutb County. The speaker advised a liks cautious economy during 1911-12 as had obtained during the year just concluded. An auspicious start was not being made this year, as the council was "hit up" Tight awaj for £150 for maintenance, made necessarily after some recent heavy weather, but the outlook was still very satisfactory. It was decided to add ten per cent, to overdue current rates, and sue the defaulters. Accounts amounting to £300 lie 9d were passed for payment. An allowance of £5 was mad© to Mr. Bustard, poundkeeper at Porirua, for last year's services. A vot© of thanks was. passed to the Meat Export Company for the loaa of its pile-driving machine for use in the Ngahauranga Gorge. Sydney F. Beaumont, on remand on a chargo of failing to maintain his illegitimate child, came before Mr. W. G. Eiddell, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court yesterday afternoon, and admitted paternity.
