SUBURBAN TRAIN SERVICE.
Speaking on this subject at the annual meeting of the Chamber of Commerce yesterday, the president (Mr. H. C. Tewsley) stated that a deputation interviewed the Council of the Chamber with regard to an improvement in the train service. Their wants were very reasonable, consisting of a request that the present 4.15 train to Palmerston North run to Johnsonvill© only, in place of the present s.2s— and that the 5.25 run to Palmerston North instead of the present 4.15. At present there was no train past Johnsonville after business hours except the 6.20, which was somewhat lato for business people, and it was a slow train, while on Saturdays there was no train between the 4.15 and 11.30 p.m. That suggested alteration, they urged, would give business men a chance to get out of town much earlier, and at t-hs same tinra give visitors a chance of doing business in Wellington getting home the same night. On interviewing the authorities they found that the alterations could not be made at the present time, but ho was led to understand that it would have favourable consideration when the time-table was revised. So far nothing further had been done- in this direction, but he understood a revision would be considered after Easter.
