A meeting was held in the board, room of the Wairarapa Farmers' Co— -operative Association yesterday to -con-, .sider the question of reopening the Waipoua ealeyards. Mr. M- Caselberg; presided over a fair attendance. It was proposed to form a. faarmers' aiictionee-i*-ing company, with a capital of £1000. -■Of this sum £740 was-subscribed in- the Toom. A cemmittee was appointed to canvass the district in search of further support. A meeting of ratepayers is -to be held to-nigM to consider the proposal to raise a loan of £5500 for the purpose of acquiring land for making a new street .between Queen and Chapel streets. The annual meeting of the Masterton Mounted Rifles was held last night. Among other business considered was a v proposal mentioned in a letter from Sergt. Sandtmann that the Masterton and Eketahuna Mounted Rifles be amalgamated, and that the new corps have its headquarters at Eketahuna. •Both Capt. M'Killop and Capt. Prende;ville< (Ekefcahama) are strongly opposed sto the proposal, and before arrangements are -made the captains will confer ■with Sergfc. Sandtmann.
