Details of the Poona ieetivj-.l fire, in which 200 lives %vers lost, show that 1500 villagers from Salumbar, Rajputana, had assembled to witness a performance in a covered courtyard, the doors of which opened inwards and wore closed by stout bars. Au explosion of a petroleum lamp fixed tho thatch over the yard and a. stampede occurred, with the result that tho courtyard was sooi' a. smouldering •Aarnel house. There were extra exits which were known to local spectators, or the deathroll otherwise might have been greater. Many of the victims came from a distance:
