[PRESS ASSOCIATION.] HONE HEKE MONUMENT.

AUCKLAND, 11th April. The monument to the late Hoße Heke waa unveiled at Kaikohe io-day. The arrival of the Hon. J. Carroll and the Hon. A. T. 2sgata was a-nnounced by a fusillade of musketry. The ceremony known cs taingaka-wa^ was carried out by representative chieftains of northern tribes. The Rev. W. Gittos then engaged in prayer, and, following him, Mr. Carroll spoke eloquently on the virtues of Hone Heke, and unveiled the monument, which had been elaborately dressed with Maori garments and adorned with articles of vertu. Several Maori clergymen and chiefs followed with oratorical tributes to the memory, of Hone H-eke.
