An interesting, if rather scientific, address \,i,s delivered by l-'rciVcmr Pickcn, of Victoria College, to the Wellington Philosophical Society lr.-;t evening in the -Dominion Museum. There was a fairly kr^-3 attendance, chiefly ol membprs of *the wtionumical section. The professor illustrated the mathematical b.-.iis of astronomy in $p]iericai trigonometry, which was tlie geometry of the heaveno, just a& plr.no trigonometry wr.i the geometry "cf the terrestrial globe, lie defined "the great circle as the primary idea, and e:.ecuted a few simple problems on the blackboard to show tho main principles applied t« astronomy. Subsequently members present joined in a technical discussion of points that had K-rieen. A vote of thanks was accorded the professor for his addrere.
