FUNDS FOR A BRIDGE.

WOODVILLE, Bth April The Hon. R. M'Kenzie, Minister for Pubic Wfxi-ke, arrived afc Woodpile shortly after h've this afternoon. He had only time to meet one deputation (from the Pahiatua County Council) with reference to the construction of a bridge over the Teaupapa Stream, on the road to Makuri. Mr. Roes, M.P., introduced the deputation, the speakers being Councillors Bolton and Ross, who stated that, although the Government was agreeable to contribute pound for pound up to £500, the Pahiatua Council was not in a position, to raise its shaie, and its

aaked that the Government should vote £600 right out, which would be sufficient to build the bridge. The Minister wae of opinion that the council should bring the matter again before the ratepayers interested, for ho was certain that the Government would not vote the amount straight out. However, he would visit the locality before he left the district, ajid would then be in a better position to consider the matter.
