IMPROVED FARM SETTLEMENT.
EXTENSION OF THE SCHEME. [II yaMQHAPH — SPECIAL TO TH* BOST.} CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. In the ' course of a speech at Rangiora last night, the Hon. D. Buddo referred at some length to' 1 the land question. He mentioned that the improved farm settlement scheme was about to be put into operation again by the Government. Two years ago they had had the pleasure of opening up some 60,000 acres of land on which 380 settlers had been placed in small areas, the State advancing £150 to each settler. Instructions had now been given to the Lands Department to ascertain whether there was an equal area of similar land for the extension of the system this winter. It was apparent, that many workers were able to make a success on the land, although they had little capital, and thesystem he had mentioned would enable them tc better, themselves and at the same time open up waste land.
