H.M.S.B. Eclipse, Captain Freemantle, was at Wangsmui on the sth instant, trying to recover an anchor slipt by her on a former visit. The Land Building and Investment Society of Wanganui met on Monday last, for the purpose of electing office bearers. W. H. Watt, Esq., Edward Lewis, Esq., and James Alexander, Esq., were elected trustees The society at present numbers 64 subscribers taking amongst them 673 ihares, representing a capital of £13,460. C~ A meeting of gentlemen was held at * Osgood's on Saturday, the object being the $ resuscitation of the Jockey Club. The erection of the circus, for Steven's English Troupe progresses, under the superintendence of Mr. Hatton, the company's agent, and will be ready for their reception on Wednesday evening. The very clever performances of this troupe are much spoken of. A cricket match was played on Friday last between eleven of the Te Aro Club and an equal number of the Hero Club, which re¦ulted in favour of the latter by 13 runs. The Hero Eleven scored 77 in their two innings, and the Te Aro Eleven 64.
