CAMP TE RORI. EXPECTED ATTACK BY REWI AND HIS FOLLOWERS. THE GUARDS DOUBLED. September 5.

On the 31st of August the last of the 65th Regiment marched through here en route for Otahuhu. They embarked here on board the Koheroa. Colonel Wyatt went down with them, so that Colonel Leslie, 40th Regt., being senior officer, is now commanding the district. Ohaupo and Rangiawhia are now garrisoned by detachments of the 40th. On Sunday last an order came down from the officer commanding the district^ head quarters, Te Awamatu, to the officer commanding at Alexandra and Haripipi, that guard was to be doubled at night, and

to be visited by the commanding officer at least twice during the night. The last report floating about is that Rewi is in the vicinity of Kihikihi with 400 natives, and that he intends to attack Te Awamutu. The report also goes so far as to say that he has warned several up there to leave before the fighting begins, but at present it is only rumour. The p.s. Koheroa arrived here from Ngaruawahio this evening, lpaving the mail from Auckland, and passed up to Alexandra, calling here again aa she passes in the morning. The weather continues splendid up here ; slight frosts at night, but very warm during the day.
