WEST COAST GOLD FIELD HOKITIKA. ARRIVAL OF THE WILLIAM MISKIN WITH 4,500 OUNCES OF GOLD. (From the Nelson Examiner of yesterday.)
"- The William Miskin arrived yesterday morning from Hokitika, bringing 4,500 ounces of gold, which, with the 1,050 ounces brought by the Eleanor on Saturday, and 11,000 ounces last week by the Wallaby, gives a receipt of gold for the West Coast within the last ten days of 16,550 ounces. The accounts from all the diggings appear to be good, but we are unable to make any extracts from the papers in our present number. The Herald, a daily
paper is now published at Ilokitik.i, and we have numbers up to Saturday last. The bar at Ilokitika is extremely shallow, and the William Miskin found some difficulty in leaving the harbour. Ihe river is cutting a new channel, and a house had to be removed, or it would have been swept away. There had been no additional shipping casualties. The secoud steam tug had arrived from Melbourne.
