ITor tho.buildingjately occupied by Messrs Levin and Co. on Lambton quay, having a from age of 40 feet by a depth of 130 feet. £800 was bid, but this property was withdrawn by the owners.

At the usual weekly meeting of the Literary Society, Chrlstchurch, lust week, the question discussed was whether the moral character of Cromwell was worthy of esteem. The debate was opened in the affirmative by Mr. H. Newtou, and continued by Mr. A. C. Newton. Mr. Cox and Mr. Mould took the negative view. The Chairman summed up, and on the question being put there was a majority of three' for the affirmative. The subject for the next meeting is " The plurality of worlds." , Last night the " Serious Family " and the famous burlesque of " Cinderella " were repeated before an excellent attendance, and the audience seemed highly gratified with the Ciipital and substantial bill of fare placed before them. " The Serious Family" went off gloriously ; and Mr. Dunn's Aminadiib Sleek was well relished. " Cinderella," as we have before stated, will bear more than one glance, and to really enjoy the capital puns and jokes with which it is full, and the extremely good acting of tl«e troupe of artistes who represent the characters, it should be seen more than once. Miss Dunn, as the Prince, was pretty and engaging as ever, and sung with great taste and feeling ; while Miss Griffiths acted with excellent 'spirit. Mr. Frank Towers, as Cloriada, was

capital ; and his impersonation of the fair daughter of Balderdash Hall will certainly add to his reputation. Mr. Dunn's Baron was what it should be, and he gave full force to the character. Mr. Howe, as Dandini, both in make-up and acting was extremely funny, We notice that "Black-eyed Susan" will be played on Satui'day next, and that the " Colleen Bawn " is in preparation.
