THE EARL OF CARLISLE.

Death has once more asserted its supremacy, and removed from public life a most devoted servant of his country. The Earl of Carisle has been taken from us, not unexpectedly, but still to the deep regret of all our fellow-conntryraen, and we will venture to say of every member of the AngloSaxon race throughout the world, for the late nobleman was as much known by his love of letters and a desire to increase the happiness of mankind, as he was in the political circles of his own country. Lord Carlisle was the first nobleman who ever lectured to an audience of Mechanics, and to him we owe the practice at once so fashionable and so useful, which has drawn «o many distinguished men into the same honourable exertion. It Is lamentable to lose a man bo good ; but we have the satisfaction of knowing that his example has already done much to secure the results for which he so earnestly sought, nnd ho leaves behind him a reputation which will ever be one of the proudest on the rolls of the aristocracy.
