ENGINEER'S REPORT.
The county engineer (Mr Alex Webster) reported to ■ the Ellesmere County Council on Monday as follows :— "I have to advise that Mr Franks completed "the clay blinding ol McPherson 's road and opportunity will be taken to roll in :*th'emetal 011. this road and also Beaiey road after the first spell of wet weather..' Mr G, Hamilton- has completed the formation of Fereday's road, but the contractor for shingling- this road has not yet commenced work owing to his men being still away harvesting. Mr Hamilton has also been doing shingling repairs on the Southbridge MilttoAvh road. Mr Burnett has been shingle repairing, on Selwyn-Lake road, the Irwfell-Sel-wyn i-oadVand Doyleston Leeston road. The new outlet for creek "waters to the lake has been further, widened and deepened. Tho culvert for Mr F. Greenwood's i road has been constructed and i laid and the Leeston roadside drains cleaned up. Mr J. D. Campbell .was for two days scooping to clear the Little Rakaia outlet.
"Mr G. Eodgers has : notified that he is ready to commence his contracts for concrete culverts and j the ferro-concrete bridge. I re- ' commend that the steel material not on hand be advertised for. I also recommend that the waterrace across the road leading into the fishing huts from Little Rakaia road be covered for a length of GO feet. Mr Lowery has been for 11 days shingling from MclJraith's pit and will be next employed wi-re-forming the road at Killinchy Creamery Corner. I recommend that tenders be called for the carting of shingle from Mr Boag's pit 600 cubic yards, 300 of which to be stacked on the finger post corner for winter repairs to adjacent roads.
