Electrical Scheme
TENDERS FOR MATERIALS. TO BE CONSIDERED TO-DAY. The works committee of the Springs-Ellesmere Electric Power Board will meet to-day to deal with tenders for the supply of thousands of Australian hardwood poles, crossarms, insulators and many miles of copper wire. Now' that the financial position is assured the Power Board is anxious to procure the necessary materials m the shortest possible time, so that construction work can be put in hand. * Although it will probably be necessary to import the transformers from England or America, it is anticipated that dcliverv may be expected within a short period. It is very likely that the transformers needed are already made up and ready for shipment, as a great many are now being used m all parts of the world. . Even if they have to be manufactured the work will not take the big firms long to get through, and it is not anticipated that there, will be any delay in regard to shipping as there is plenty of space available now on steamers. Some of the poles should be to hand in a few weeks'time. Mr Scott, who is marking out with pegs the places where the poles are to be placed, is making excellent progress with the work, and will probably be finished measuring up distances, etc. within a month. When this is done the construction work can be pushed on without delay. Altogether, very satisfactory progress is now being made with the scheme.
