Southbridge Town Board.

The adjourned monthly meeting of the above Board was held on Monday evening m, the clerk's office, there being PRESENT Messrs Webster (Chairman), Britton, Burns, Cameron, Haughey, Low and Shearman. The minutes of last meeting were confirmed . HOMEBROOK. CREEK The Chairman reported that he had interviewed the Chairman of the County Council and bad made arrangements for having a survey made. He had also seen Mr Campbell and Mr Mathias, who were anxious that something should be done immediately. Mr Mathias complained of the serious nuisance caused by the stagnant water. He thought that Mr Campbell would have no objection to the creek being turned into his drain. Meanwhile he had temporarily cut off the water so as to abate . the nuisance on Mr Matbias' property. It was decided the Works Committee should ajjply to Mr Campbell for leave to divert the creek into the drain, and if obtained, tbat the diversion be proceeded with at once. FIRE BRIGADE, Mr Low reported that the tanks had been completed, and also the engine shed at the reat of the Library. Both contracts had been satisfactorily carried out. The clerk informed the Board that he had seen Mr Maddison on the subject, and that he (Mr Maddison) and Mr Bird intended to inspect the tanks, etc., during the week, with the view of reducing the insurance prou.ium. THE CLERKSHIP. ;Twp applications were sent m for the clerkship rendered vacant by the resignation of Mr C. H. Willis. After some discussion, on the motion of Mr Burns, seconded by Mr Cameron, it was decided by four votes to three to appoint Mr G. Marquand,

Mr Low pointed out that the clerk's engagement could be terminated at any time by giving a month's notice. The matter then dropped. ACCOUNTS Amounting to £45 8s 7d were passed for payment and the meeting terminated.
