CONCERT at LEESTON.

The Concert, arranged m aid of the funds of the Leeston Town Hnll took place on Thursday evening, and the result mnst have been m the highest degree disappointing to the promoters of tbe entertainment. There was a miserably small attendance, though a capital programme had been prepared and was excellently rendered. The first number was a selection from II Trovatore, well played by the Ellesmere Orchestral Society, which during the evening also gave Old Tapestry and another selected piece. Mr W. M. Yates sang The Scout, for which he obtained a merited encore. Lator on he delighted the audience with The Old Brigade. Miss Cooper sang The Better I Land with a violin obligate by Mr Hutchens, which was also encored. Miss Longstaff's voice was heard to, advantage m that charming song Pierrot, and with her sister she also ; sang the old duet Pulaslci's Banner. The Glee party contributed three Glees, Hark ! the Merry Elves, and Ho reward Bound being apparently best liked by the audience. Mr W. Longstaff sang The j Jack Tar, and m response to an encore, | Milly Gray. Mr Blythe, m costume, sang The Old Log Cabin and had to repeat it. Mr A Cooper's song, The Outlaw, was also deservedly applauded . The instrumental solos were an arrangement of airs from Martha on tha Cornet by Mr Blythe, and a Violin solo by the Rev, Mr Whitehoiise. Mr Owen contributed a reading from that most amusing of books, lhree Men m a Boat, choosing the account of the struggle of the trio w'uh the tin of pineapple, and a recitation by Mr Hogg, The Bachelor's "Dream, completed the programme. With po well chosen a programme by such cap >ble amateurs, it it is a thousand pities that the attendance was so meagre.
