The practice of presenting ''*■ it (the Manchester 'Courier s London : correspondent writes) aeems,.to have arisen* m the 13th century, but it is not known which Pope instituted it. Henry VIII; received the roae frbrri three Popes. It was also sent' to his ■ daughter- Queen Mary, by CJniius 111, .. .
