A section o* the hall of the patent dredge imported by Mea-ra Gibson and Co., has arrived at Alexandra, and the work of fitting >t up will be commenced immedi at ly. Mr Wellman, the patentee and constructor of the dredge, has als > arrived, and the work will be carried ont under his personal supervision. He anticipates having the dredge fitted up ready for work in about a month’s time. The favorable spring weather has had a most beneficial effect on the crops throughout the district. The farmers have every prospect of a capital harvest, while the grass pn Coe runs is far better than has been seen for many yeare. The f .uit gardens a-o 'oolcine really splendid, and attract a large number at visitor* on Sundays and holiday*. I observe that Mr Noble has opened a shop iu the township for the sale of kit fruit, aud judging from quantities of cherries, strawberries and cream, etc, which arrive in the shop every morning, and which become small by degrees and beautifully less a: the evening approaches, his venture appears to be successful In social matters wo ars busy organising entertainments of various kinds fop the approaching holidays. On Christmas Eve a a Selection of Christmas Carols ets. will be given in the Town Kail by a number of onr best angers who ai ein ajtive practice at present and will no doubt acquit themstlvet in their usual excellent style. On New Years day the combined sureties id Foresters, Good Templars,and Caledonian Society wild hold a picnic and sports in the Recreation Reserve, concluding with a dance in the Town Gall ia the evening so that there will be no lack of amusement wherewith to pass the time.
