MATAKANUI RACING CLUB.
The annual meeting of the above Club was held at M'lntosh’s Blacks Hotel on Wednesday evening last, the Bth iast., J. C. Jones, Esq. (President), in the chair, end some twenty members being present. The minutes of the last annual meeting and of the last Committee meeting were ■■ead and confirmed. ('.Jones, President ;W. Jack, Vice-President; Stewards : Messrs Boulton, Baunerman, J. Pitches, M'Donald, Dr. Hyde, T. Flaunery, J. Alexander, C. Huddlestone, Greenbank, A. Sutherland, D. Fogarty, Laidlaw, Glassford, and G. Naylor, wifh power to add to their number, and five to form a quorum.
The Secretary read circulars from the Dunedin Jockey Club, wherein it was laid down th it all race meetings must be run in future under the Dunedin Jockey Club rules under penalty of disqualification of horses, j ickeys, and Club as well. A good deal of discussion took place, some members contending that it was arrogant presumption on behalf of the Dunedin Club to interfere with other Clubs, whilst some argued tbit the better thing for the Duned'n Club to do would be to supply programmes, money, and alb Eventually it was resolved—That the rules of the Dunedin Jockey Club be adopted. Messrs Jones, Laidlaw, and Jack were appointed a Programme Committee, and were authorised to draw up a programme for a two days' meeting on Saturday and Monday, January Ist and 3rd, 1887, with L3OO added money. A suggestion was thrown out that there should be second prises, but the question was left with the Programme Committee. The following officers were appointed : Judge, W. Laidlaw; Starter, A .Sutherland ; Clerk of Seales, G. Naylor ; Clerk of Course, Mi Glassford ; Vieasurer, Mr Bannerimn ; Saoietary. Mr Boulton. Handicippers, Messrs Jones, Jack, and j Tail law. Re.olved—That all the right to booth and saddling paddock be sold by auction, i other privileges to be retained in bauds of i Club.
