THE BAZAAR AT BLACKS.

[Communicated]

The late naz-iai held for the purpose of raising funds to complete the building used as a Catholic Chapel, was most suoeesstul, when the short rime spent in preparing for it, and other disadvantages are considered. When the date was first fixed, no thought was ha I that the circus would open on the same night, and it was too late when it became kn-'wn to alter it. The committee therefore resolved on going on with it, al« though many predicted a complete failure, and in s -me quarters, there is no doubt, I am so* ry to say, that the wish was father to the thought. The result, however, has justified the action of the committee, and success must in a very great measuie be at* tribnted to the energy of the ladies who presided over the stalls, more particularly Mesdames Smith and Fizgerald, and the Misses Chappie. The committee owe these ladies a deep debt of gratitn le, for they certainly could not have exerted themselves mo e 7. 'alonsly had the object been for the benefit of their own communion. Special thanKS are also due to Dr Hyde, who kindly save the use of his piano, and also to Mr Fache. who succeeded in disposing of the goods leftover on Saturday night, in his usu d happy manner, and helped to swell the total considerably.

Several ladies piesid-d ia turns at the piano, some of whom came from a considerable distance, anil exerted themselves ia various ways to promote the success of the afLir. The total amount realised being nearly LBS. Dancing was becun at about 2 o’clock on the morning of the second night, to the music of ihe dulcimer ar.d|accordion, than which betder could not be wished for dancing ; and although the fljor was occupied by as many as twelve sets at ono time, all s-etried to enjoy them elves, anil nothing occurred throughout to mar the pleasure of one of the most numerous assemblages yet seen in Blacks.

Wishing the same success to the next affair of the kind, no matter for what pur* poa', or by whom undertaken.
