MINING NEWS,

A correspondent informs ns that good work isnow being-done, in White's Com. pany. claim. Ha save:—“l suppose yon know sinking on McKenna’s line of reef baa been stopped. For about 30ft in the shaft the reef was from 2 two 3ft thick; here it pinched out and for the next 20ft there was only the clay seam between the waits, the stone was again making, but sinking was stopped. For the past 7 or 8 days two men have been sloping nut quartz from a lode 2 to 3ft thick ; other two men are in the face of the mam tunnel following a very good vein, with the country getting harder. With the present number of men, and the present prospects, I think there will bo some 600 tons of stone ready for the battery by when it is erected, say about the beginning of March next. The mine is nowbeing worked satisfactorily, though from what I can learn, the manager would like to have more men under him. There ia nothing particular to note from the other claims on the range. Mr W. Green, at Blanks, has at length got his water race in, aod has commenced washing the stuff from this newly discovered reef. The machinery is on an entirely new principle from what we have aver seen, accordingly cannot speak as to its merits, but we are afraid, even if it saves the gold,it will be but a very slow process. There are several claims at work on the flat running into the new drainage channel, and report , has it that they are paying fairly well, j dredging operations between Clyde and Alexandra arc presently being prosecuted with every diligence. The steam dredge, which occupies a very hroa I p irtiun of tho s.ream, is now in good working condition, considerable time having be n formerly lost through portions of the machinery getting out of gear. Mr Mackersie, the captain, has been untiring in his exertions to put I matters in working trim, with the result that everything now in connection with the dredge is in first class working order. Eleven men and a boy fin I employment on this craft, and the weekly expanse of miiataining her comes to nearly UOO We are glad to know that the shareholders have no reason to grumble over the results. About 30 ozs. per week are at p eaent netted, anal certain improvements whi;h will be effected on this dredge about Christmas time, are expected to add considerably to the revenue. Th« Eureka has shifted slightly up the river and we understand ia upon payable gold.
