The keys of the safe were stolen but no money %as abstracted. At present there is mLsluo to the murderers. The published report and balance sheet of the Colonial Bank recommends a dividend of seven per cent per annum.

Edward Obery committed suicide yesterday morning by hanging at South Dunedin. At the inquest today a verdict was returned of committed suicide whilst in a state of temporary insanity. He had not been living happily with his family for a long time.
The Huvunui left Fort Chalmers today for London with a cargo valued at L 84.000. The Land Board at Invercargill was recently compelled to refuse application to complete purchase by deferred payment selectors, owing to to the'receipt of a circular from the Land Department to the effect that the Act relating to 6 years residence is concerned The Board took the opinion of Judge Williams, and this was read to-day He stated that the Act was not retrospective, and he failed to see how any doubt could ever have arisen on the point. 'I he Board afterwards granted the application, A man named Hall, from Victoria, and in circumstances, was found dead in his bed at.Codard’s Hotel, Kurau, near Oamarn, this morning with his throat cut He had been some time in the district, and was apparently on a holiday tour.
