A gold discovery of a very promising character is reported to have been recently made in the Waikato district. The gold was water worn, and one piece weighed a pennyweight. At the meeting of the New Zealand Insurance Company the report subs mitted shewed, after making provi* sions for all ascertained losses to date, carrying L 24,000 to reserve fund (which with reinsurance fund now stand at L 225,000) and paying an interim dividend of 3s per share in July last, there remained a balance of profit amounting to L 22,089 2s 7d. It was agreed to pay a dividend of 3s per share which absorbs L 15,000, leaving L 7,089 2s 7d to be carried for* ward to the next half year.
