CAMBRIANS

(From a Correspondent, June 14, IBS 4. It was for some time considered that ,r M. J S. M'Ksnztu would have a walk over for Mount Ida m the coming election, Imc at a law hour, no other candidate being forthcoming. Mr John Ewing, of St. Bathans, was induced to come forward in the Liberal interest, and the elec ion will now he keenly contested, judging from the lively interest taken in matters at present, Mr Ewing being a miner himself, miners will certainly see it to their own interest to place him at the top of tbe poll, but they must. roll up in force to do so, as in Mr M ‘Kenzie he has got a powerful opponent. Both gentlemen have addressed the electors in this place, and both had well-attended meetings, and a simple vote of thanks was passed on each occasion, Mr M'Kenzie’s meeting was the first held, ami although no other was at that time in the field, the electors did not wish to End themselves until it was seen if any other would come forward. In compliance to a requisition from the electors in the Naseby end of the district, or Ewing put in an appearance hurriedly, and without preparation, and at his meeting hia supporters were not aware of their strength, and nob wishing to court defeat at his fi-st meeting, simply put a vote of thanks, when, had a vote of confidence been put, i ( would have been carried easily, so the poll will show unless a change takes place in public opinion.
