Tha minutes of previous meeting were read anil confirmed.

The Visiting Committee reported having visited the institution during the month and found everything wot king satisfactorily. Regarding the patient Murdock, they report that bis health is much improved from the knowledge of his proposed visit to the old country.

After discussion it was proposed that-the cheque be returned to Dr Lewis, as the committee know nothing about it. As an amendment it was proposed that Dr Lewis be asked to explain if tbe amount was to b* considered as a donation, and that it was to be expended in tbe ordinary way with other monies that came into the hands of the committee, or whether It was understood that the amount was to be handed over to patient Murdock. The Treasurer and others held, that it was beyond the province of the committee to donate from its funds any monies, whether to patients or others, and if the benefit was got up on the understanding that the amount realised wwj, to. be given to patient

Murdock for his own and sola use and benefit, the committee could hare'nothing whatever to. do with it j but if on the contrary it waa for the benetit of the institution, the committee then could deal withit.andolaim subsidy front the Government oft; same. ■ The Treasurer s»id that with hia returns to the Government when claiming subsidy, ho had to make a declaration,, that the amounts received by him were pure and simple donations or subscriptions, and that if this particular money was not to be treated as ordinary revenue, but was to be l handed again to Murdock,. ha failed to‘see that the committee could deal with it at--- all.' Resolved : That a vote of thanks be recorded to Mr John Allen, of Alexandra, for his donation of IfiOlbs of onions, and .that he be requested to furnish the committee with a receipt for the market value of same. Mr C. Attfield was re-elected a member of the visiting committee. The water supply committee handed in their resignation, and Messrs Macginnis, Crawford, and Sims were elected a new committee, and requested to report at, next meeting. Mr Sims stated that the Alexandra Lodge of Good Templars had at their last meeting decided to get up a concert at an early date in aid of the funds of the institution.

The Treasurer stated that he was much inconvenienced in the making put of his monthly report, by the accounts not being handed to him until within an hour or so of the meeting. ■ * Resolved : That the residerit surgeon be requested to send to the Treasurer on or before the Saturday preceeding the usual monthly meeting all monies received by him on account of patients, together wi hj The monthly accounts duly certified, also the paying patients receipt book.
