MINING NEWS.
‘ Work is still being pushed ahead with considerable vigor by a good many of the quartz claim holders on the Old Man Range. White’s,company after sinking their shaft about 50ft opened out a drive, and in about seven feet struck the reef, which is strong and solid and carries excellent gold. As the shaft deepened the country got much harder, and'from the appearance of the reef the assumption is that a true lode haa been struck, a week dr two, however, will settle that -point.- The prospects of tha Co. since the find are much brighter, and the discovery has created quite a stir and commotion amongst the other claim holders. Lithgoeand Grey are still sluicing. Gavan and Wookie continue driving ;,aud the Advance has at last got to work in earnest, I hear of a remarkably rich find ot alluvial gold on the surface somewhere at tha foot of Conroy's Gully by Mr W. Bennet, further particulars of this I will obtain for next week’s memos.
