No donbt these rumours have a substantial basis of fact to rest on, and some very singular revelations will be made in the investigations. An inquest was held yesterday at the Lunatic Asylum, Napier, the jury returned the following rider to a verdict s—That the accommodation provided at Napier Asylum for the unfortunate inmates reflects great discredit on Government. It is gazetted that 1600 acres are reserved for forest tree planting along the line of the Otago Central Railway. Informations have been laid against George Hyatt, of the Turkish Baths, under the Fraudulent Debtors Act. A man named George is supposed to have been drowned at Tophouse, near Nels n, on Tuesday night, as his horse was found on the river bank, with his saddle turned round, and the man is missing. Mr Firth, of Auckland, has imported a consignment of Bubble bees for the purpose of fertilising red clover. He expects to save a thousand a year by tne experiment if, successful. The dummyism inquiry was continued to-day, and further adjourned till Tuesday next. Good reports are to hand from all parts of the province as to the appearance of the crops, and if fine weather continues they will be very heavy. Cricket match to-day, Tasmania v. Canterbury, at four o’clock, the former scored 96 for two wickets.
The Dunedin Gold Dredging Company have declared a dividend of 10s per share.
