ALEXANDRA SCHOOL.
At the annual meeting for the election of a sch' ol committee held on Monday, January 28, the following gentlemen were elected members of committee for the current year:—Messrs Tbeyers, McDonald, Allan, Fraser, Simmonds, Willoox, and Lothian. Mr McDonald was elected chairman, and Mr Willcox secretary to the committee. The Mowing is the report of the retiring committee for the year 1883 In submitting their annual report your committee hav* pleasure in being able to re port that the teachers have given the usual strict attention to their duties, as evidenced by the very satisfactory report of the Inspector, at the recent examination. The number of scholars on the roll at beginning of the year was 90; entered during the year 35 ; while 37 had left, leaving 88 on the roll at the termination of the year. The average attendance waslst quarter, 66 ; 2nd quarter, 65 ; 3rd quarter, 63 ; 4th quarter, 70. Your committee desire to call the attention of parents to the low average attendance of scholars, more particularly in the present state of the Boaid's finances, which, should the average attendances fall below 75, wilt be sure to cause the school to lose its mistress. Tour committee would suggest that the compulsory clauses of the Act should be put in force, seeing that the parents have been notified on previous occasions without much effect. The receipts and expenditure for the past year, as per statement attached, shows that your committee have been very careful in expending the funds. Seeing the large amount of improvements made in the way of atone fences, coalhouse, and closets, they have made application to the Fducatiou Board for a sum of money to complete the gates for the school grounds, and would suggest that on receipt of the amount granted by the Board, viz., LlO, the work should be carried out, and also repairs effected to the dividing fence between the manse and school residences. In resigning their trust your Committee hone their successors will take steps to see that the suggestions embodied in this report are carried into effect, and that the school will have a prosperous season. The balance-sheet showed—Total receipts for the year, LlOl 3s sd; expenditure, L9S 4s 6d ; balance to credit, L2 18s lid.
