CROMWEUo V. CLYDE. The thiid mutch between the above clubs was played on the ground of the former on Saturday, December 22, and resulted in a victory for the local team by 14 runs on the first innings The play during the first innings of each team was very good, and but for the open decisions of the umpires, the Cromwell sooie would have been a great deal smaller. Davidson, for Cromwell, bowled very well, while in the batting Turton, Torrance, and Gibson succeeded in reaching double figures by good ad-round play, the innings closing for 86. At the conclusion of the innings an adjournment was made for lunch, and on resuming play M'Connochie and Hackworth appeared at the wickets to do battle for Clyde, but n > stand was made by any of the bitsm-n until Miles and Stevens got togetbi , These two were the only batsmen tbit cached double figures ; but young Stevei s played very well for his 8, the innings oibsing for 72, or 14 less than Cromwell. The second attempt of Cromwell kept the Clyde men pretty lively in the field, Maddock by hard hitting and any amount of chances (which were not taken) making the score of the day—s9, when he sue cumbed to one from Thomson. Turton in this innings’showed the field that be could hit very bard, sending Thomson for two 6’a in one over, and was not out with 33 when Humps were drawn at 7 p.m. Davidson played well and steady for his 18. The fielding of the Clyde team in this innings was anything but creditable, they evidently not being used to so much leather hunting, Hackworth and Morrison showed good form with the ball for Clyde.
