VINCENT JOCKEY CLUB.

As previously arranged, the first general meeting of members of the Vincent Jockey Club was held in Mellor’s Newtown Hotel, on Friday evening, the 26th List, Notwithstanding the threatening aspect of the weather, and sure prospect of a very dark night for the homeward journey, there was a large attendance. Mr J. 0. Jones was called to the chair. The report of the Cun mittee previously appointed, to canvas for increase of members, and to select a central racecourse, were firs . considered. The former swelling up the roll of members to about forty, a considerable portion nf them he.ing present. The latter stated that tney had seleot-d section 2, block Ilf, Lauder ; which w.-is admirably adopted tor the purpose and centrally situated. The elotion of officers was then proceede 1 with, and in a few minutes the following gentlemen wee unanimously elected : Messrs J. C. Jones (President), William Jack (Vice-President), J (4. Hyde, T. J. McKerrow, G. R. Boulten, P. Harrington, T F annery, P McDonald.C. Huddlestone, R Sheppard, F. Morgan, D. Fogarty, A. Sutherland and G. Naylor as stewards, to hold office until next yearly general meet mg, which was resolved to be convened not later than September in each year. The meeting then closed. The stewards had a short meeting afterwards, tho business done was merely to arrange date of next meeting, authorising President to make an application to get the section selected set apart for a racecourse or as a recreation reserve fur the district. The appointment of a permanent secretary was also deferred until next meeting.
