(FROM OCR OWN CGRRESFONBENT Dunedin, November 1, 7.45 p m. Three seamen were drowned from off the ship -Westland, which airived at Wellington yesterday from London. Tne enquiry into the supposed cases of dummvism was opened by the Land Buar-i yesterday and continued to day. The Public Works Department here received instructions to call for tendeis immediately for the construction of the News thorne Section of Otago Central Railway. The Deep Stream Section is also to be relet at once. The births in Dunedin district for October are more than double the number of deaths. The Timaru Agricultural Show was great success. Reid and Gray, of Dunedin, took the largest number of prizes. There is no change in betting market over Christchurch and Melbourne meetings. The next "■eeting of the Otago Rifle Association will be held at Musselburgh, on December 12, 14, and 15. Reports are favorable as to tbe crops in South Australia. A draught match between Otago and Canterbury takes place at Christchurch on November 8. The Christchurch Land Board yesterday refused licenses to prospect for gold in Malvern Hills, on gioun 1 that the place is within a mile of areas already granted.
