The Dunstan Times.

CLYDE, FRIDAY, SEPT. 14, 1883.

Beneath the rnlc of men entirely Joe* The pen ia mightier than the aword.

In our local columns we reprint a paragraph from the report of the proceedings of the Waste Lands Board’s last meeting, on Wednesday, the sth inst., fiora which it appears-that some power is at work to deprive the people of the disfciict of a much valued

privilege they haye enjoyed for the last twenty years or so. From what we can glean from the very brief paragraph, a proposition is submitted by the Under Secretary for Crown Lands to leas® for pastoral purposes 6960 acres of the Clyde Commonage, not Run 221 as it is reported, The land in question, when granted as a commonage for the use of people ol the Donstan District, having 'beea-with-drawn from run 22T. We wl'lnot insult the common sense and gence of the residents of the district by asking them what they think of the proposition., feeling assured . that ns one man, and with one voice, they will characterise it as a monstrous, uncalled for, and unwarrantable interference wifi the endowed rights and privileges of the district. In drawing the, attention of the County Council to the matter we feel fully.persuaded-that they will join issue with us in condemning the proposition and at once enter their protest; and in self-interest we shall hope that such an expression ;of opinion will be given by the people as will cause the Waste Lsihds Bo&rd'to reconsider the matter and withdraw their recommendation to the Governor to the proposal. We have no positive knowledge, but (from the size of tho area, 6960 acres, we can only suppose it to be the upper part of the Duristan Commonage from the Leaning Rock Creek to Dairy Gully.
