DUNSTAN DISTRICT HOSPITAL.
The ordinary meeting of the Committee of Management was held in the Town Hall Chambers, Clyde, on Monday, the 6th ins:., at 8 p. m. Present—J. U. Cambridge (Vice-Presi-dent), Jailery, Mafcannis, Crawford, Sims, Holt. Attfteld, ’ Masters, J. E. Stevens (LVeasurer). and Geo. Fache (Secretary). The minutes of previous, ordinary, and two special meetings were read and confirmed. The correspondence, including leljters from the Government, asking for information relating to certain diseases ; also, re subsidy and replies ; also let efs to and fiom Ur Wardals were real and received. The report and letter from Dr Wanale in reference to Mr Bruce’s letter was read. After discussion, it was propose! oy Mr Fache—seconded by Mr Jeffery—That all the parts of Dr Ward ale’s letter aad report, referring to the treatment of Mr Bjmce’s boy, he sent to Mr Bruce, and that the charge of LI per week be made fur the time tue buy was an inmate of the Hospital. As an amendment, Mr Sims proposed, and Mr Masters seconded—That this Committee* deem ihat.it would be stepping beyond its functions by interfering wi hj the Resident Surgeon and bis private patient*, and that the charge of 30s per week be made; t .1 The am ndment was declared carried. -The Visiting Committee’s No. 1 report, embodying numerous recommendations, we e ordered to be carrie 1 out. Report No 2, reoo emending payment of accoun s for salaries and supidi s for the past month, amounting to L 54 18s 2 I, was read and received. The Tri amrer’s report, showing a credit cash balance of L 9) 8s 81, and available assets of about L3O, was read and received. Tne Surgeon's report, showing that on the inst. there were seven palieots in the institution, was read and received. Coital 1 recommendations embodied in the report were referred to the Visiting Cumin ttee. Mr .Vi asters was elected member‘of the Vi-iting Commit.ee vice Mr James Holt ledring. App ica'ions for the office ot Ren lent Surgeon were now opened as follows : D- St.ies, North Christchurch. I>r Johnson, Chris'church. Dr Lewis, 0| avva, Christchurch. D Low, Clinton. Dr Carnpoell, Lyell. After the .alters of application and numerous testimonials were read, it was decided r.o defer Ihe tin 1 1 consi lerati-m of the subject iill the 7th ii st., at 8 p in. The Secretary being instructs i to in the' meantime, obtain all possible information respecting the can iidite s . 7th inst Ou resura'ng at 8 p in., the same members of Committee in attendance as ou previous evening. 'Pile Secretary read a number of telegrams receive I by him during the day, after which a ba'lot was taken, resulting in the election of Dr Lewis, he receiving nine votes out of ten piesent. The Chairman having declared Dr G. A. Lewis elected to the post of Resident Surgeon of the Dunstan Hospital, the Seoielary was instructed to notify the sere al candidates of the result. The meeting was closed.
