(from our own correspondent Dunepin, July 12, 7.50. p m. At the Supreme Oonrt yesterday, Joseph Louth was sentenced to three years for embezzlement. Wain’s case was opened yesterday and continued to-day. Mr Dennistop replies to-morrow, and it will probably conclude then. The schooner Transit went ashore at Petare Beach, near Napier, and is now a total wreck. All hands are saved. A warm debate ensued on Mr Montgomery’s motion in tho House yesterday, and debate adjourned. It has now assumed a no-confidence aspect and it is hard to say how the battle will terminate An address and purse of sovs. was yesterday presented to Sergeant Macnamara, of the gaol. The Gaol enquiry at Addington •was continuad to-day, but not very interesting to outsiders. Belmont has been scratched for the Melbourne Cup. A man named Long is said to have committed suicide by shooting himself at Mount Somers. It in stated that Dennis Quinlan, the Reefton murderer, has made a statement purporting to be a confession ; I utit is not made public. It is rumored that the Skeleton Army intend making an attack on Snndav on the Salvation Army. This proba l ly is in consequence of the heavy .. fines inflicted on some of former this \ week.
