Melbourne, June 9th. Mr Service’s colleagues fully endorse his views regarding the proposed annexation of the New Hebrides. The Argus approves of the same, and insists that the Colonies should contrioute towards the expense of the annexation. The Age has despatched Morrison, who recently walked from the Gulf of Carpentaria to Melbourne, to explore New Guinea. The Age suggests thac the proposed Exhibition in London should ha held under the auspices of the Colonial Institute. It is reported here that the Colonial Secretary of Queensland has received a tele-g-iam from Earl Derby, Secretary of State for the Colonies, stating that Sir Arthur Kennedy, Governor of Queensland, died at Aden on the 3rd inst., wtiilo on the voyage to England. June 10. Arrived, this afternoon : P. and 0. Co.’s s.s. Indus, with the inward mails via Suez and Brindisi, dated London, May 4. Sydney, June 9. A further extension of the Western railway for a distance of 36 miles was opened to-day. The whole length of line now open from Sydney is 377 miles. The ship Asterope, which went ashore at Low Head, has tieen abandoned to the under-writers, and is expected to become a total wreck. Adelaide, June 9. The Chamber of Commerce supports Mr Towpenny’s proposal to hold a Colonial Exhibition in London.
