■ HOME AND FOREIGN. London’, June 8. Portion of the cargo of frozen mutton ex G„r.iuue sold at auction to-day realised an average of 51 per lb. The meat was in good condition. The total quantity of wheat afloat for Great Britain is 1, 930,000 quarters, being 30.000 less than the quantity afloat last week. Australian tallow has a Ivance' l 6d per cwt. Best beef is now worth 41s 6d. best mutton, 435. The catalogue at to day’s wool sale comprised 11,500. A good demand was experienced.
June 9. At the wool sale to day 10,300 b des were offered. The tone of the sale was firm. St. Petersburg, June 8. A meeting of 30 Nihilists m tuis city was surprised by the police, all escaped capture. The Ozar has issued a manifesto abolishing the poll tax in the case of the poorest Russians, and reducing the same as regards other classes. London. June 10 Most of the papers twit the Government regarding the admission made by it iu reference to Mr Enington’s semi official mission to the Vatican. The police in Dublin have exhumed the body of a hotelkeeper in that city named July, who recently died under suspicious circumstances, and who, it is now suspected was poisoned by the luviucihles. The wool market is weaker, especially for inferior wools, and coarse and crossbred samples. Two hundred and twenty-six thousand bales have been catalogued, aud 20,000 withdrawn. Sir Arthur Kennedy, late Governor of Queensland, died at Aden on the 3rd inst., whilst on a voyage to England. The frozen meat by the Garonne has realised 6d per lb., and notwithstanding the bad condition of some of it, the British King’s shipment from Lyttelton has realised an average of 6|d per 10. The L dy Jocelyn, from Wellington, with a cargo of meat in excellent condition, has arrived at Plymouth Sir Hercules Robinson returns to the Cape, but will; it is reported, succeed the Marquis of Normanhy as Governor of Victoria. Notwithstanding that James Carey, the informer in tbe Phoenix Pa'k murders, is being expelled from the Dublin Council, the judges in Ireland have decided that be is still entitled to hold the position of councillor. The trial of the Marquis de Lunos commences on Wednesday. It is announced that Prince Albert Vie. tor will enter Cambridge University in October next. A procession consisting of 50,000 persons escorted the Eight Hon. Mr Bright at Birmingham. Zukertort, a well-known German player, has won the first prize iu the recent chess tournament.. Mr Roe, Liberal, has been elected for Derby in the place of Mr Michael Thomas Bass, who resigned a short time back. Herr Von Beningsen, the leader of the Central Party in the German Reichstag,has resigned his seat.
