MYSTERIOUS DEATH.

Writing under Wo-mtsday’s date, our Roxburgh correspondent says:—From information receive I at tlie Police -Station last evening, a murder is supposed to have been committed, the dead body of a man having been found by a person named '■adagher, employed on Mr Keogh’s station, near Warthill Creek, lietween Moa Flat and he Pumahaka River. Tne bo ly was covered with stones, the head which had the aopea anc- of having been chopped off, with the teeth partly knocked out, lying at the feet. The body has a charred appearance, as if an attempt at oremtiou had been made, hut some of the flash till adheres to the bones. It is suppose I ihat the man has been murdered, ami that his clothes have been burnt. Constable Poole started at an early hour this morn* ing to investigate the extraordinary affair. Telegraphing last evening, our correspondent says On Constable Poole arriving on Thurday morning at the scene, in company with one of the hands from Moa Flat Station, who had piloted the way, he found the bones, of a human being in the crevice of a rock, a little above the ordinary elevation. The skull was lying near the feet, having fallen off the trunk, and the bones showed considerable symptoms of decay, being quite brittle. It is suppose ! to be the skeleton of some one who has been unfortunate • enough o have wandered and got lost a number of > ears ago. The rim having been burned recently nround the skeleton, it had a charred appearance. The hones were brought to Ettriok, where' They have been interred by.order of the Coroner.
