Tho accidental explosion of a dynamite infernal machine near Brussels has led not only to the arrest of two Anarchists, con detuned by default for participation in the M.ontceau-'es-Mines and Lyons outrages, but also to the discovery of a serious o.iu s piracy against tho public authorities of several Euiopean states. The circumstances under which the arrests were made were very strange. On the afternoon of 23rd February the Burgomaster of Ganshorten. near. Brussels, had convoked a numerous company of_,friends for a pigeon-shooting parly at hii chateau, when suddenly, at about 3 o‘chick, the report of a formidable explosion was heard. The Burgomaster, the Count de Villegas St. Pierre aud h's guests ran in haste to the spot where the explosion-.had occurred. At a short distance from the chateau they found a man, horribly mutilated, lying in a ditch. His right aim and leg had bean shattered and hi« clothes were in rags, Another man was standing unhurt dose to him, but he ran away when he found that assistance wabeing given to his companion. The wounded man was without delay transported to St Jean’s Hospital, at Brussels The gen.dannaiie having been informed of the circumstance, immediately commenced an enquiry. The explosive matter wrs evidently very powerful, for several trees growing by the side of the ditch where the man was found had been much injured. While the gendarmes were still on the spot where the accident happened, the wounded man’s oiimpdnibii, whn.ha i.rlin away, came bark in a eah. He was at once arrested. In consequence dp information furnished by the cabman, two.houses at Ganshorten were searched, as Vveli as a hohVe ih the Pue de 1 Asiociatiim,. in Brussels.,-In a room in that house, tenanted by a man named Delsaut, the member of a > Anarchist Committee who gave hospitality to Louise Michelduring her late stay in Brussels, threetrunks were seized.' His bearing during his examina* tion was most, insolent. The injuries bus. taiueJ by the man who had been conveyed to St. Jean’s Hospital were found to be most serious Hia right' hand was a mass of pulp, and the flesh of bis thigh was stripped to the bone. He nevertheless hm-e hj s sufferings with extraoidiuary fortitude, \ and when questioned by the authorities refused to answer till he had been informed rhat Cyvoet had made a full confession. He then declare I that hia name was iVAtnyer, and that he had also been condemned by default tor parlicipa ion in the Lyons oiltriges. He further related that the infernal machine which he had in bis pocket, and which exploded, was a bomb containing picrate of po ash, sulphur, and sugar, lathe middle was a tube containing sulphuric acid. ■ Mitayer imagines that the.,ex plosion of this.bomb was caused by the tube being badly, closed. Some of the liquid must have oozed out and caused the exploai.. H -. He maintains that the-infernal machine was destined simply for un-experi-ment.
