CLYDE RACES. The first day of this meeting, which it is to be understood was carried out under the nianagement of the newly resuscitated Dun. stao Jockey Club under the name of the “ Duustau Racing Club,” took place yesterday on the Dunstan race course, but by no manner of menus was it so successful as was to have been either expected or desired ; the attendance of visitors and the number of competing horses being far below the average. Those, however, who did put in an appearance, in spi e of the many drawbacks, thoroughly enjoyed themselves, and the universal opinion was, that if not a marked success, the day was a most enjoyable one and the hope expressed was that the morrow might be no worse if not better. The races were most honestly contested, and saving a protest against Pathfinder, based on the assumption that he was entered under a wrong name, the stewards hid no trouble. An accident, however, befel Mr Thomas McKay, the well known trainer and rider, he being kicked oy the horse Gamecock, from the effects of which he had to bo removed to the Dunstan Hospital, which somewhat threw a damper on the day’s proceedings. His feelings, however, were somewhat assuaged by a presentation of about £l2, which was immediately collected on the course. The sum of L 531 •was put through the totahsator, thereby evidencing there was no lack of money. The stewards throughout the day performed their duties satisfactorily, and Mr M‘C.innochio, in charge of the Grand Stand, was as attentive as could have been desired. The following are the details of the various events : Maiden Plate, of 15 sovs ; entrance, 15s. For all horses that have never won an advertised prize of over £lO. Weight for age. Distance, 14 miles. Theie were 52 investors on the totahsator, and a dividend of 25s declared. BLACKS ANNEAL RACES. These races took place on Monday last, the first inst. and passed of successfully. A large number of people were in attendance, amongst whom we noticed a good sprinkling from Alexandra and St. Bathens, but from Clyde and Cromwell there were but few, doubtless owing to the fact that the Crum well races were jnst past, and in a few days the Clyde meeting was to beheld. The rac ing was more than ordinarily good, each Iw, event being gone for most gamely and won on its merits. The committee of manage ment was very active, and carried through the meeting without a hitch, besides htving time to devote to their friends and acquaintances who had coma a distance. Mr M‘lntosh had charge of the booth, and if the continuous ringing of glasses with the accom panying popping of corks was any any cri teriou of the amount of business done, then we should say he had no cause to comp ain. The totahsator was worked for the fii>t time on the Blacks course, but was not patronised so well as might have been expected, excepting the Maiden and Flying Handicap The winners had most backers, and the dividends were small. Whether it was the effect of the totahsator or not, the excitement was not so keen as wc have often witnessed. The results of the various events are as follows Maiden Plate, of 10 sovs ; L2 for second horse. For all horses that have never won an advertised prize. Weight for age. Distance, 14 miles. Mr Qavan’s Design, 4 yrs, 9st 21b ... 1 Mr M'lntosh’s Ladybird, 3 yrs, 7st 31b 2 Agitator and Johnny also ran, the former being the favourite, but both of them declined to keen the comae, and consequently were out of the race.
