China has ordered the German system of naval fortifications for several of her ports, and is also arming her infantry with the Prussian Warner Rifles. A terrible conflagration took place at Olenburg, Finland, on November 3. Enormous losses resulted, stores, hotels, &c., benig destroyed. On Sunday, Novembers, a terrible earthquake visited Northern Austria, an I several villages were destroyed near An tab. In consequence of the fioo la the traffic of some parts of such towns as Canterbury and Reading was carried on in boats, and the country upon eacli side of the principle railway looks like a large lake. Sheep rot has also appeared in many plac a, so that it is not surprising that the English farmers are more anxious and depressed than ever. Frederick Gretton, owner of Fernando, Isonomy, and oih-r well-known racehorses, (lied on November !6. A despatch says that Keene’s colt Foxhall was put in a private sale list on the ISth November. The amount asked for him is 35,C00d01.
