ALEXANDRA V. ROXBURGH. The elevens of the above clubs met upon "the ground of the latter on the 9th inst. Alexandra went in first to bat. but the ■wickets fell in rapid succession until Moorhead (35) and Aldred (12) got together and made a Jong stand, tho former making his 34 by good steady play; no other batsman got into double figures, and the innings ■closed for 75. The fielding of the Roxburgh men was very good indeed, and the bowling of Hill and Telford would not allow of any liberties being taken. The Roxburgh men were unable to make any stand against C Rees and Moorhead, with the exception of Snell, and their last wicket fell to a grand catch by Williams at shortslip off Moorhead. We forgot to mention also that Mr. W. G. Rees was disposed of in Alexandra first innings by Guthrie at point, by a sp'cn Eft-hand catch. Alexandra second innings c osed for 74 ; W. G. Rees and Ohaml et s with 23 and 12 being the main stays. The wickets of the local men in their second essay fell quickly to Williams, who bowled in place of Moorhead, who unfortunately hurt himse’f, until a most determined stand was made by Snell, who though a little lucky proved impregnable, and played ont time with 36 to his credit; Hill, with ten, being next highest scorer. Towards the latter end of the innings the ground was so ent up that it was almost impossible to bowl upon it. The Roxburgh men had two wickets to fall and 34 runs to win Alexandra winning on the first innings a most agreeable and pleasant game. In the evening the Roxburgh men entertained their visitors at the Commercial Hotel, Host Herron providing a most excellent dinner, the usual loyal and friendly toasts being duly proposed and honored. CLYDE AND BLACKS JUNIORS. On the Prince of Wales Birthday a match between the above teams was played on the Alexandra cricket ground. The day was cloudy but fine, and as it was generally kept, as a holiday in the township, a goodly number of spectators assembled in the, reserve to see the plsv, and were highly delighted at the proficiency displayed by the boys, and more especially in bowling and fielding. There is no doubt that in the course of a year or two several of the boys wi'l make their marks in the senior clubs. For Alexandra, Masters G. Simmonda and G. Robertson did most of the bowling. They were well on the spot, with a good pace; and prevented the combined team from making much of a score. The fielding was very good on the whole, L. Mackeraey especially distinguishing himself as longafop, hardly allowing a hall to pass him. For the visitors, Hueston, Pitches, Ryan, Kecldell, and Hickson showed excellent all round play, and although the combined team were evidently overmatched they deserve every credit for the plucky manner in which they played an uphill game. G. Simmonda, 0. Robertson, and Charles Rees batted well for Alexandra ; as also did Hnestou, Pitches, Hickson, and Ryan for the combined team. Speaking of the bat* ting generally it may be said that the off play was very good, the cutting being clean and well-timed, but most of the batsmen | seemed all abroad at the leg-bails, numbers of which were let off without punishment. The following are the scores, by which it wi : l be seen 'hat Alexandra won the match by six wickets : Combined Team.
