Under the aboVe beading the suhioired article appears in the Sydney Town and Country Journal of October 7 The following letter has been sent to us for publication. Tt bears upon the face of it the evidence of hein£ a very sillv attempt, at a hoax. If it is not so. then the writer is' as great a scoundrel ns remains unhanged in the world. In either case it is desirable that the person shall ho discovered, and with that object in view we publish the letter, in the hope that it may lead to the indentification of the writer. We purpose handing the manuscript 16 the police authorities We publish it verbatim el literatim, withholding, however, some remarks which constitute a postscript, arid which injuriously reflect upon two wo’l-known citizens, both members of the Legislature:— To the Editor. Sir,—l inform the Government of N.S.W if they will give L 20.000 that will leed to the fire of your Garden Palace lam the person can give you all information how it caught fire Their are 12 people in the affair. Give me the sum I ask for and a free pardon and I will let you know all. The Garden Palace was to he burnt that afternoon when the Governor was their. It was done by a machine that I made in America called the Infernal Machine. I must say the watchman is not a smart man, for I where near him that night in the Palace. I where to get LI 000 thousands pounds to do this, and some our it went off before its time. No blame is attached to the Watchman. I have not been Long in the Collony cam from Araeric and Ireland the Cittv Dublin is my native place but 1 have not got the LIOOO pounds which was promise to me, so I will split upon them concerned in.it.
