HOME AND FOREIGN,
Great discontent prevails among the E glish provincial factory hands. The matter has become so serious that wholesale arrests have been made, and the prisons are full in several places. Explosive bombs were found ready for use. Two arrests have been made of persons suspected of being implicated in the murder of Lord Mountmorris. A newspaper, the Irish World, has closed the fund which was being raised for the Land League, and in doing so has declared that the organisation is now defun ;t. Colrnd Gordon (Gordon Pasha) has re signed his position as commandant of the Cape forces, owing to a difference with the local Government. A daring attempt to shoot a grazier and two land agents has been made near Ballina, County Mayo, Ireland. The shots fired were unsuccessful, and the intended victims escaped. No clue has yet been obtained to the perpetrators of the outrage.
