BECK’S PLOUGHING MATCH.
* The annual ploughing match of the Lau-; -der district tork place on Friday, August 18, at Mrs Milward’s farm, Becks, the weather being all that could be desired. : ’There was a large attendance of visitors ; and all the arrangements were most sue■cessfully carried out. Enough cannot he ■said in praise of Mrs Milward’s hospitality to all comers. The land was in splendid' •order and cut very well, but the paddock was not a very suitable one, being uneven ■and full of lagoons, which spoiled the lock ■of the work. The programme was a liberal •one, and should have brought out more ‘teams than actually came to compete ; there •being only two swing ploughs, and six •double furrows. En Class A. the work was ■not what might have been expected ; owing, no doubt, to the lack of competition. Nevertheless most of the double-furrows did "really good work—the best it is said, that has been done in the district. Thefollowinzgentlemen acted as judges;— Messrs John Stronach, Matakanui Station; Neville, Ida Valley; and Anderson, Black■stone Hill; and their awards seemed to meet with general approval.
